Welcome to Swordfish, Year 5 / 6
Assistant Headteacher and Class Teacher: Mr B Cowling; Class Teacher: Miss T Burness
This is my tenth year at Torre Academy, and seventeenth year in teaching! Those years have flown by! Currently, I teach in Swordfish class which is in Year 5 and 6 and am the Assistant Headteacher.
The best part of my job is seeing a child progress across the year and enjoy their experience of school. As part of my role, I lead on ensuring children are following our behaviour policy and school values.
My interests are in PE and Sport, where I run the school football teams and take other teams to many festivals, and Computing. Also, I have a one year old son named Toby!
Having recently graduated from Plymouth University with a First-Class degree in Primary Education, specialising in Special Educational Needs, I am very excited to be starting my teaching career at Torre Academy. During my training, I gained experience across different year groups in both mainstream and SEND settings. These experiences have helped me develop a strong understanding of the importance of creating an inclusive and supportive environment where every child feels valued and able to succeed.
I will be teaching in both Swordfish class and Octopus class, and I am passionate about making learning engaging, creative and accessible for all children. I love creating exciting learning experiences that encourage children to be curious, independent, and enthusiastic learners. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, exploring new places and finding new walks with my puppy, Hannah. I also have two cats, Bear and Shadow, who keep me busy at home!
