Courageous Advocacy

What is courageous advocacy?

Courageous advocacy is referring to the act of ‘speaking out’ against an issue of injustice, often on behalf of those whose voice is not heard. Building a fairer and more sustainable world for all.

Why do we promote courageous advocacy?
‘We live life in all its fullness’ John 10:10

Jesus came so that we could be forgiven for all the bad things we have done and so that we can live life in all its fullness.  The Bible teaches us about how we can ‘live life to the full’ and how we can help others to do the same through the stories about Jesus in the New Testament. These stories inspire our whole school community to engage in social action and to be courageous advocates for change in the local, national and global community.

To develop the children’s understanding of what courageous advocacy is, each year group explores good examples of an advocate. This person, from both the past and present, will have faced injustice, overcome barriers in order to help others and pioneered for change.

Our curriculum, which includes character education, equips children with the skills and confidence to advocate on behalf of others. We plan experiences for social action in each year group to allow children hands on and in depth exposure to important local issues. Beyond this we encourage children to discover what they feel passionate about and allow them the time and resources to take action.
