At Torre C of E Academy, RE is recognised as RWE (Religion and Worldviews Education) and within the EYFS, RWE falls under the Specific Area: Understanding the World. As a core subject, RWE is taught weekly in all classes. We take an enquiry based approach to this subject, ensuring that whilst developing RWE knowledge and skills, we are also developing character values and metacognitive strategies at the same time.

The RWE curriculum aims for all pupils to:

  • know similarities and differences between different religious and cultural communities

  • make sense of a range of religious and non-religious beliefs

  • understand the impact and significance of religious and non-religious beliefs

  • make connections between religious and non-religious beliefs, concepts, practices and ideas studied.

We have adopted a child-friendly principle aim for RWE:

RWE explores big questions about life, to find out what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live.

RWE helps pupils to make sense of religions and belief, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living.

We believe that it is essential that our children are curious around the beliefs of others and that this is essential to securing our outcomes of caring citizens who can positively contribute to society and create change in the world.
