Welcome to Octopus, Year 3 / 4
Assistant Headteacher and Class Teacher - Miss G Chew; Class Teacher - Miss T Burness

I have been teaching for 13 years, spending the majority of that time here at Torre. Having taught across both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, I am excited to be returning to Year 3 and 4. I completed my teacher training at Marjon University in 2013, gaining a degree in Primary Education with QTS.
Teaching is a true passion of mine, and I am committed to nurturing children’s life‑long love of learning. I couldn’t imagine doing any other job. I strive for excellence in my classroom—both in my own practice and in securing the very best outcomes for the children in our school.
Across the school, I lead mathematics, but I also thoroughly enjoy teaching all subjects within the curriculum. My aim is always to create a learning environment where every child feels challenged, supported and inspired.

Having recently graduated from Plymouth University with a First-Class degree in Primary Education, specialising in Special Educational Needs, I am very excited to be starting my teaching career at Torre Academy. During my training, I gained experience across different year groups in both mainstream and SEND settings. These experiences have helped me develop a strong understanding of the importance of creating an inclusive and supportive environment where every child feels valued and able to succeed.
I will be teaching in both Swordfish class and Octopus class, and I am passionate about making learning engaging, creative and accessible for all children. I love creating exciting learning experiences that encourage children to be curious, independent, and enthusiastic learners. Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, exploring new places and finding new walks with my puppy, Hannah. I also have two cats, Bear and Shadow, who keep me busy at home!
