PE and Sports

Children at Torre enjoy physical activity and clearly value the importance of living a balanced and healthy lifestyle. From Reception – Year 6 the children are taught a range of sports and build upon the skills taught year on year. Being part of the Torbay Sports’ Partnership has enabled our children to participate in festivals and compete against other Torbay schools over the last few years.

Sports Premium Funding

Our Sports Premium Funding has enabled us to achieve and experience so many new things! We have enjoyed working with specialist coaches, having lots of new equipment and trying out new adventurous activities outside of school. Our aim is to build on our success year on year and closely evaluate and monitor how and where our Sports Premium Funding is having the greatest impact on our children and adjust our action plan accordingly.

Extra-curricular clubs

Sport based extra-curricular clubs are also popular at Torre Academy:

“We learnt so much from our gymnastics’ coach this year. We now know how to puck, tuck, roll and how to walk like a gymnast. I really enjoyed the after school club too.”

We offer a range of clubs led by school staff and external coaches and leaders both on and off site. This year the children have enjoyed: football, kayaking, skiing, netball, running, dance, keep fit and athletics. Also, this year we have been thrilled to find out how many children have been inspired by the school sports clubs and have joined external teams and organisations outside of school. Thank you to all those families who have supported their children with this.

Swimming

Swimming is important to us at Torre. The children start to learn to swim in Reception and then go on to receive an intensive course of lessons during lower Key Stage Two. Alongside the class teacher, we have appointed a swimming teacher at Plainmoor Pool to support the children's’ progress in this sport.
